Nancy found herself on a flight 32,000 feet over Tennessee. She was running from a bad marriage in Chattanooga and heading straight into the arms of a man she hadn’t seen for over thirteen years.
Not knowing what life she was dragging her three daughters into, had her terrified. After all, she hadn’t seen Dan in over a decade. The only thing she knew was that she was unhappy and miserable in her marriage, and that she had never stopped caring for the man she was running toward.
There wasn’t any way she could have know that the object of her affection had been taught to be a killer, nor that murder would soon become a part of her life.

The Ultimate Discipline edition by Dan Fenton Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

I had to give up with the Ultimate Discipline at about the 40% mark because the book is just so badly in need of editorial input.

Since I didn't finish the story, I can't say that there aren't other errors but, in the bit that I read, there were:

1. Numerous grammar errors. It's clear that the author doesn't know what apostrophes are for or how to spell. That's OK - an editor or proof-reader can sort that out - but don't expect your buying audience to do it for you (or to put up with the mistakes).

2. Carelessness with expressions such as 'per say' (instead of 'per se') and 'viola' instead of 'voila'. Some may feel that this is trivial but such errors won't inspire a serious reader to perceive that the author has taken much care over their writing.

3. Rambling. There were two explanations of why his mother had changed her name within the first few chapters and we kept going over the father's threats without any obvious reason.

4. Impossible viewpoints. We're inside the author's head yet we know what his mother was feeling when she was just a girl. While it's quite plausible that she told him set facts (like having to bind up her bosom), is our author going to know exactly what she said to her peers and her exact emotions at the time? Not very likely.

5. Lacking direction. I felt there was more information about his Harley than about what made him tick.

It's definitely interesting and worthwhile subject matter but the book's badly in need of someone to take it apart and restructure it (as well as doing the corrections). Two stars is generous under the circumstances but I don't feel it's a lost cause which is why it's not just the 'one'.

The Ultimate Discipline edition by Dan Fenton Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

The Ultimate Discipline
This book shook me deeply. How terrible it must have been to have been raised by such a monster. There were indeed parts of the book that made me laugh and others that brought a tear to y eyes, but overall, it highlights the under fabric of the society of abuse some Americans, some children are raised in. The one Negative reviewer surly didn't read the entire book, as their comments aren't consistent with the story that was told.
Readers in search of a new and dramatic experience will find it in Dan Fenton's memoir The Ultimate Discipline.
Depicting a family virtually under siege from their own father, the author traces the impact of his father's anger and behavior on individual members of the family, including his mother, but primarily on the author. It is a heart-searing story that exposes a philosophy of life held by the father that glorifies hurting others by punishing the most beloved persons closest to you. However, the memoir offers strong redemptive features because what emerges from this dark journey of the father and his family are sons and daughters and grandchildren who are strong and caring individuals. They are survivors with talent, optimism and holding family values that are directly opposite to those of their father. There is a fascinating and marked contrast
reading about the father and the author. A surprising number of scenes capture family moments of beauty, tradition and normality. As readers we were left with the desire to know more about the author and characters central to his story. It is a provocative book which really should be explored and recommended. We enjoyed it.
Dan's words painted a picture that took me through his life as though I was there... Minute by Minute. Torturous Pain, Joy, Happiness, Adventure. Peace?
Good Book
This book will keep you wondering what this man's despicable father will do next. For someone who thought the author should have done a lot of things differently, please remember the author was born in 1947. In the year 2012, yeah, I bet he would have done things differently. Can you imagine back in the 60's or 70's goin to the police with your suspicions. They would have probably went straight to his father. Then who would his father went after next.
This book gives a close look to the person writing it. The reader feels as if they themselves have been on the same path; following in the stressful footsteps that the author took during his life. It also gives the reader insight to what people "can" be like. Trust should never be freely given, but instead be guarded against the dangers & wickedness this world produces. This book provides that learning tool. The feeling of a step-by-step recount of the author's life Deserves the highest rating. (One never knows what shoes another wears....until the story is told.)
Dan Fenton's book, The Ultimate Discipline, offers a powerful insight into a family faced with an abusive father figure. Putting aside the violent nature of the story, Mr. Fenton's ability to be able to describe the love of his mother and grandmother is very heart-warming. His descriptive writing brings all his characters to life. I felt that I was there to witness the very hurtful behavior of this father toward his family. In contrast, his beautiful description of the Grand Canyon was amazing and the episode of his mother buying him his "New Used Shoes" was the most moving and tender passages that I can ever remember reading in any book.
I enjoyed reading this book. I would re-read this book and recommend it highly to anyone who wishes a "fascinating read
This book started out with too many described details that seemed to go on and on and on.However the description of the canyon was very well detailed with you feeling as you were there.I admire the courage Dan Felton and his siblings gained by their experiences of having this jerk of a man for a "father", I felt sorry for the weakness his mother had. Still don't understand why his sister never told what had happened to grandma and why Dan didn't continue on a bit more with what he DID tell the police and why his father was never looked into as a suspect. Maybe his father was looked at as a suspect, but he didn't share that.
